Will Young slams Spencer Matthews over ‘least gay’ comment – Yahoo Eurosport UK
Will Young has slammed Spencer Matthews for “reaffirming offensive gay stereotypes” after his controversial comment on This Is My House.
The former Made in Chelsea star appeared alongside his wife Vogue Williams on the hit BBC show, in which celebrities have to guess who owns a luxurious home out of four potential candidates.
In an effort to deduce who was the property owner during the episode on Sunday, the panellists commented on the homeowner using hairspray, prompting Spencer to ask: “Who’s the least gay?”
Will fired off a passionate response on social media, and called out the BBC for not taking action.
“Asking ‘who is the least gay’ on @bbciplayer @bbc #thisismyhousebbc1 I find completely offensive,” the 42-year-old posted on his Instagram Stories.
“What does ‘least gay’ mean? most ‘masculine’, least ‘effeminate’ ‘for f**** sake @bbc don’t you realise it is completely reaffirming offensive and shaming stereotypes, I’m gay, take it up the b** and like football and cars. Might blow your mind …. @spencermatthews (sic),” Will raged.
The singer took to social media on Monday to confirm he had contacted the BBC, but had yet to receive a reply.
He asked the broadcaster to acknowledged his concerns, “or perhaps some sort of understanding and sense of being educated from a privileged show person (which I am as well).”
The singer came out after winning Pop Idol in 2002, and has previously spoken about the homophobia he has faced during his music career.
