The arrest was made after police received a 911 call at Thursday morning for a person in possession of a weapon inside the Bowery Hotel. While executing a search warrant, officers found two loaded firearms.
According to the New York Post, a worker saw Shultz pull a gun from his pocket “in a public part” of the hotel, prosecutors said at Schultz’s arraignment. Prosecutors also reportedly said that the singer appeared to be intoxicated at the time.
The bag in which Schultz’s guns were found also had 11 Polaroid photos of the guns including some that depicted “a hand holding, pointing of the firearm,” according to the prosecutors.
Also, six handwritten notes were found, “one of which states in substance: ‘I will protect myself if I am attacked,’” prosecutors said.
Schultz’s attorney, Sam Talkin, told the judge during the arraignment that the guns were purchased legally and registered, but not in New York. It remains unclear where the guns were purchased.
