Which US major cities are having a Gay Pride Parade 2021? – AS English

Pride Weekend, which traditionally falls on the last weekend of June each year to commemorate the Stonewall Riots can be celebrated year-round, and no more true than this year. While the uncertainty that the covid-19 pandemic has caused forced the postponement of Pride parades in some cities until 2022 out of an abundance of caution, organizers in other major cities found a workaround.

Some major cities are taking their celebrations online where those who want to take part can follow planned activities live over streaming platforms. Other Pride organizers chose to move the LGBTQ+ community celebration of self-affirmation and visibility to September or October, which is LGBTQ+ History Month.

New York City

The NYC Pride Parade is on hiatus for the second year in a row due to the pandemic. However, those in the LGBTQ+ community and those who want to show their support can participate through the NYC Pride March 2021 PopUp Experience.

Chicago

The Chicago Pride Parade traditionally takes place the last Sunday of June, culminating a full month of festivities and events. This year the parade will go on, but will be delayed until Sunday, 3 October. The 51st annual Chicago Pride Parade will kick off at noon at Montrose Avenue and Broadway in the Uptown neighborhood and march through the city’s “Boystown” neighborhood.

San Francisco

The City by the Bay has cancelled its Pride Parade once again this year but in October everyone is invited to the inaugural LGBTQ+ Freedom Festival in honor of National Coming Out Day. It will feature events in one of San Francisco’s neighborhoods on Sunday, 10 October.  Organizers will provide more information in advance of the festival.

Los Angeles

There won’t be a Pride Parade in the City of Angels in 2021. Organizers said that there was no way of knowing if covid-19 restrictions would be lifted in time for the celebration.

Houston

The Downtown Pride Parade has been pushed back until the fall of 2021.

Twin Cities

The Minneapolis Gay Pride Parade has been cancelled again this year but the show will go on for the 49th Annual Twin Cities Pride Festival. Loring Park will be filled with local BIPOC and LGBTQ+ vendors, food courts, a beer garden, and music stages from 10 am to 6 pm, the weekend of 17-18 July .

Miami

The legendary Miami Beach Pride Festival and Parade is returning on 10 September. Festivities will run through 19 September.

Boston

Athough the Boston Pride Parade and Festival will not be held in June, the City of Boston and Boston Pride are considering moving the celebration to sometime in the fall “if all conditions are in place for such events.”

Denver

Keeping everyone safe and socially-distanced the Denver Pride Parade went virtual again this year. Between social media and over-the-air broadcasts, last year’s virtual parade drew more than 400,000 viewers. This year the Coors Light Virtual Denver Pride Parade takes place 26 to 27 June can be viewed on the Denver7+ App, as well as at DenverPride.org, the Denver Pride Facebook Page and Center on Colfax YouTube Channel and will be presented by Denver7.

Atlanta

The Atlanta Pride Parade will provide information on their celebration sometime in the future. Currently all marches and parades have been put on hold due to covid-19 restrictions.

Saint Louis

Pride Saint Louis PrideFest was unable to get the necessary permits due to covid-19 restrictions, so with a heavy heart the celebration has been postponed until 2022.
