Weather warning for North Wales as heavy rain could bring floods … – North Wales Live

North Wales has had its first weather warning for 2023. It comes as heavy rain is set to get worse into Tuesday evening (January 3).

The yellow alert issued by experts at the Met Office reported that heavy rain is expected to lead to some travel disruption and flooding between 7pm this evening and 3am on Wednesday (January 4). The warning covers parts of Conwy and Gwynedd.

The weather warning comes alongside earlier flood alerts that were put in place across some the region’s waterways including the River Dee and the Vyrnwy catchment.

The Met Office reported just before the New Year that a strong jet stream was pushing a succession of low-pressure systems across the Atlantic, bringing with it the wet and windy weather we are seeing currently.

Additional concerns came after forecasts predicted the nation should brace itself for weather akin to the 2018 Beast from the East to make an arrival soon. Meteorologists are reported to be keeping a close eye on a pool of cold air spinning over the North Pole which has the potential to spark a Sudden Stratospheric Warming event.

Below is a general overlook of the forecast for much of the region:

Today (January 3): Early rain clearing eastwards to leave a drier, but cloudy morning. Patchy rain developing again in the west by lunchtime, then widely wet and windy later. Milder than Monday. Maximum temperature 12°C.

Tonight (January 3): Strong winds and rain persists through the evening, although gradually easing by Wednesday morning. A few clearer spells by dawn, and a milder night than recently Minimum temperature 10°C.

Wednesday (January 4): A day of sunshine and showers, though these mainly confined to the north and near the coasts. Winds gradually easing through the day, and feeling mild. Maximum temperature 12°C.

Outlook for Thursday (January 5) to Saturday (January 7): Cloudy with further outbreaks of rain and strong winds on Thursday. Turning brighter and calmer for a time on Friday, before further rain and strong winds arrive into the weekend. Maximum temperature ranges from 10 to 13°C.
