We don’t need more programs | News, Sports, Jobs – Escanaba Daily Press
EDITOR:
This is in response to Mindy Grant’s letter in the September 30 Daily Press. We don’t need more advanced programs to feed kids. What we need is more responsible parents to go to work and feed their kids not the taxpayer feeding their kids. There was summer nutrition programs before COVID.
There are help wanted signs everywhere. All businesses are short of help because they can’t get people to work. If they do hire someone most of the time they don’t even show up for work. They start at $14 to $15 per hour. I never made $11 per hour after being there for years when I worked. My husband worked three jobs for many years to support our family. A “program” never occurred to us when we were raising our family. They were our responsibility not Joe the Taxpayer!
Last week there was a man with a sign looking for handouts on the corner by Aldi’s. At Aldi’s there was a sign “Help Wanted” starting at $14.50 by their entrance. What’s wrong with this picture?
In the same September 30 Daily Press on the front page was a picture with “Employees Wanted.” The room didn’t look too crowded to me. Stop the free, free, free, because there is no such thing someone has to pay for the free others get.
Adrian Rogers said it best “Friend you cannot legislate the poor into the freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government can’t give to anyone anything that the government does not first take from somebody. And when half the people get the idea they don’t have to work because the other halfs going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea it does no good to work because somebody is going to get what I work for. That dear friend is about the end of any nation.”
