‘Treasure Island,’ Disney on ice, and 3 other cool things to check out this weekend – PennLive

Another weekend approaches and you’re not sure how to best spend it? We’ve all been there. And it’s with that in mind that we put together this short list of some cool things happening in central Pa. this weekend that you can check out. You’re welcome.

Avast me hearties! “Treasure Island,” the theatrical adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of pirates on the high seas, continues its run this weekend at Open Stage, 25 N. Court St., Harrisburg. The play, featuring the largest cast in Open Stage’s history, stars Gabrielle Dina as Jim Hawkins and PennLive reporter Sean Adams as Long John Silver. Show times are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 21-22, and 27-28; and 3 p.m. Oct. 23. Tickets are $30-$37 dollars, or $18 for students.

Disney on Ice: Frozen and Encano continues it’s run at the Giant Center in Hershey this weekend. The show takes audience members to Arendelle to be a part of Anna’s adventure to find Elsa, and then to the Madrigal family’s Casita amidst the mountains of Colombia. Show times are 7 p.m. today; 11 a.m. and 3 and 7 p.m. Oct. 22 and 11 a.m., 3 and 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23. Tickets start at $28.

The Harrisburg Book Festival continues into this weekend at the Midtown Scholar Bookstore, 1302 N. Third St., Harrisburg. Festival highlights include appearances by authors like Ross Gay, author of “Inciting Joy,” and Sanjena Sathian, author of “Gold Diggers.” There will also be a children’s event and a tent sale.

Pumpkin Palooza will run this weekend at Hershey Gardens, 170 Hotel Road, Hershey. Kids can come in costume to enjoy live performers and food trucks. There will be painted pumpkins and a pumpkin tree on display, as well as All children get a bag of candy as well. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 22-23 and 29. A general admission ticket is required.

Popnology is the new exhibit gracing the Whitaker Center, located at 222 Market St., Harrisburg. It chronicles the progression from science fiction to science fact and also shows emerging technologies. The show includes a 3D-printed car, a jet pack from “The Rocketeer,” classic arcade games, and props from “Back to the Future” including the DeLorean time machine. Tickets are $10 (ages 3-6), $13 (ages 60 and up) and $15.
