Therapist Ends Challenge to Maryland’s Gay Conversion Ban – Bloomberg Law

A therapist who alleged that Maryland’s ban on gay conversion therapy for minors prevented him from providing talk therapy to reduce minor clients’ “unwanted” same-sex attractions has dropped his suit.

Christopher Doyle notified the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland that he was voluntarily dismissing the case. Doyle had sued the state alleging the law restricts therapists’ speech based on content and viewpoint in violation of the First Amendment.

The court dismissed Doyle’s claims on the merits, saying the law regulated professional conduct, not speech.

But the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit reversed that decision …
