If inclusivity, fluidity and diversity are the buzzwords for today’s chattering classes, the all-male Trocks got there first. The diva ballerinas of the famous drag comedy troupe have been parodying ballet’s gender and physical stereotypes for almost half a century.

Gender fluidity? “It’s in our DNA,” says Tory Dobrin, a former Trock who has been the artistic director of Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (to give the troupe its full name) for 30 years. “The men we have run the gamut from extremely masculine to extremely feminine. The Trocks have been dealing with issues of gender fluidity ever since the company was born. It just wasn’t called that in those days.”
