The Last of Us Poised to Dive Deeper Into This Gay Couple’s Storyline – Pride.com
Fans of The Last of Us video game and post-apocalyptic stories in general are hyped for the series adaptation of TLoU headed to HBO next week. The game has long been a fan favorite among LGBTQ+ gamers in particular for its inclusivity, and apparently the show will only build upon that.
The Last of Us centers around a smuggler (Joel, played in the show by Pedro Pascal) tasked with smuggling teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey), who is immune to the infection taking out the human race, out of a quarantine zone and across the country.
The third episode will reportedly dive into the story of Bill (Nick Offerman), who is revealed in the game to have had a lover named Frank who hung himself after becoming infected with the virus.
Whereas the game never gave players much more information than that, the HBO show appears poised to devote more time to the gay couple’s story in some fashion or another, as Murray Bartlett has been tapped to play Frank.
It seems likely the couple’s story will still play out in a similar fashion, considering the nature of the show itself and how important that loss is to Bill’s character development. But having Frank appear in some manner will undoubtedly give more weight to their story.
The Last of Us season one premieres on HBO January 15.
