‘The Inspection’ Trailer: Jeremy Pope Leads A24’s Gay Marine Corps Drama Inspired By Director Elegance Bratton’s Life Story – Deadline
A24 has unveiled a trailer for its buzzy drama The Inspection, inspired by the personal story of director Elegance Bratton (Pier Kids), which is slated for release in theaters on November 18. The film starring Emmy nominee Jeremy Pope (Hollywood) will make its world premiere at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, subsequently finishing out the New York Film Festival as its closing night selection.
The Inspection follows Ellis French (Pope), a young, gay Black man, rejected by his mother and with few options for his future, who decides to join the Marines, doing whatever it takes to succeed in a system that would cast him aside. But even as he battles deep-seated prejudice and the grueling routines of basic training, he finds unexpected camaraderie, strength and support in this new community, giving him a hard-earned sense of belonging that will shape his identity and forever change his life.
Raúl Castillo, McCaul Lombardi, Aaron Dominguez, Nicholas Logan, Eman Esfandi, Andrew Kai, Aubrey Joseph, Bokeem Woodbine and Gabrielle Union also star in the film, which Bratton directed from his script. Effie T. Brown and Chester Algernal Gordon served as its producers.
Following the March release of Daniels’ martial arts metaverse pic Everything Everywhere All at Once, which has come in as its highest-grossing title to date at the global box office, A24 has continued a remarkable 2022 run with the release of acclaimed titles including Alex Garland’s horror Men, Dean Fleischer-Camp and Jenny Slate’s stop-motion pic Marcel the Shell with Shoes On and Halina Reijn’s Gen Z horror-comedy Bodies Bodies Bodies. Other titles coming up for release include Owen Kline’s Funny Pages (August 26), Ti West’s X prequel Pearl (September 16), and Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer’s psychological drama, God’s Creatures.
