That ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law is very popular when you accurately describe it – Washington Examiner

Democrats and establishment media wailed about Florida’s law to prevent teachers from teaching about sexual orientation and gender identity to children, dishonestly calling it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

Turns out they had to do that — because when people learn what the law actually does, it is incredibly popular.

We already knew the law was popular among Florida Democratic primary voters, with 52% supporting it and 36% opposing it. It turns out that even liberals love their children and don’t think teachers should be using class time to teach third graders about sexual attraction or made-up genders. But a recent New York Times/Siena poll makes it clear just how far out of line Democratic politicians, liberal media, and Disney were in their panicked opposition to the bill.

The poll asked registered voters, “Do you support or oppose allowing public school teachers to provide classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to children in elementary school (grades 1 to 5)?” Just 27% said they support the stance pushed by the liberal activists. A whopping 70% opposed it. That means 70% of registered voters support, in principle, a law that goes much further than Florida’s new law, which only outlawed such instruction through third grade.

But wait, it gets better. When asked the same question for middle school and junior high school, listed as sixth to eighth grade, still 54% opposed such instruction, with only 44% supporting it. It is not until you hit the high school grades that a majority support instruction in such topics.

When Florida’s law is described to voters accurately instead of through the liberal activist label of “Don’t Say Gay,” it turns out that a large majority want to extend the policy all the way through eighth grade. Unsurprisingly, liberals had to mislead the public (with ample help from their media allies) to try and fight against a law that the vast majority of Floridians support.

Take this as yet another reminder that Twitter is not real life and that the activist class that controls the Democratic Party is wildly out of touch, even as the media try to amplify their voices by filtering the news through their perspective. People want liberals to keep their weird obsession with sex and gender identity away from children.
