Supporting teacher and gender identity | News, Sports, Jobs – Altoona Mirror

I am a gay mom of two children in the Hollidaysburg Area School District.
Our oldest attends the junior high.
My support is with the teacher in question.
She was reading the memoir, “Gender Queer,” for continuing education credit.
It is an account of one person’s journey of understanding her own gender identity, and, I might add, is available through the public library system.
I found Superintendent Robert Gildea’s verbage “disturbing and inappropriate” when describing “Gender Queer” misguided, at best, and discriminatory, at the worst, toward those who identify as non-binary.
I will continue to support educators like this one.
