Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp has humorously responded to his own coming out as gay.
The 18-year-old star, who plays Will Byers in the Netflix behemoth, told fans he was gay in a TikTok video of miming along to a popular meme.
In his follow-up video on the same platform, Schnapp jumped on another trend: the fake celebrity death announcement. Instead of someone checking their phone and reading out a fake celeb death and catching everyone’s reactions, one of Schnapp’s friends read: “Oh my God, guys, guys, guys! Noah Schnapp gay at 18!” before panning round to a host of exaggerated reactions, including a shook Schnapp himself.

Noah’s Stranger Things character Will Byers is also gay, harbouring a secret crush on his best friend Mike Wheeler (played by Finn Wolfhard).
In response to criticism of the claim that Will has definitively come out on screen, Schnapp has promised fans they will get necessary closure in the fifth and final season.
“I can just tell you that I’m very, very excited for what’s to come,” he said.
“I think they did a great job with Will’s character this season, and beautifully addressed everything they needed to. The way they closed the show is just perfect – the story started with Will, and it’ll end with Will.”

Schnapp has actually found himself a job outside of acting work before he heads off to university, signing up to be a lifeguard in his hometown. He explained that he doesn’t need the money, but wanted something that would keep him grounded and also be a bit of fun.
Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are now streaming worldwide on Netflix. Season 5 will begin production later this year.
