Terra Linda played spoiler on Thursday, holding off both Tam and Archie Williams to prevent them from earning a berth in the MCAL Tournament.

Piper Egan shot a 35 at McInnis to earn low medalist honors, ahead of Trojans teammate Zohie Betts (36) and the Falcons’ Ryan Magnusen (36). Tam’s Lola Spendova carded a 40.

The Trojans tallied a score of 172, ahead of the Hawks (179) and Falcons (188). Terra Linda finishes the season 7-9. Tam and Archie Williams, which had both been poised to make the playoffs with a win and a .500 record, also finished 7-9  to narrowly miss the cut.

• Marin Catholic’s Cam Stewart led the field with a 43 at Indian Valley, to help the Wildcats (193) outduel San Marin (201) and Novato (214).

Field hockey

Lucy Jeffers deflected the ball into the net off a corner shot to score in her first varsity game as Redwood shut out Lick Wilmerding, 3-0, Thursday.

“It was so great to see her score in her first varsity game and come out there with fire and tenacity that helped lift the energy of the team,” Redwood co-coach Alene Copp wrote in a text.

Julia Morrow scored on a corner shot and Eliza Byck redirected an assist from Sammy Haan for another goal. Bella Wagner and Morrow also had assists.

The Giants (8-0-3) are locked in a battle for first place with University (8-0-4) with three regular-season games left. Redwood is scheduled to play at Marin Catholic (7-1-3) on Friday, then finishes the season with showdowns against Archie Williams and University.

“Our girls have put a tremendous amount of heart and dedication into this season,” Copp said.

Women’s tennis

It’s Turkey season, and the 3.5 40-and-older women’s team from Scott Valley Swim & Tennis Club in Mill Valley is celebrating its second-place finish at Nationals in Scottsdale, Arizona, Oct. 9.

The team, nicknamed the Turkeys, was representing Northern California at the tournament. The Turkeys swept through ladder play, 4-0, to advance to the semifinals against the Eastern Section champions. A NorCal semifinal win set up an all-California championship matchup with the rivals from Southern California. The Mill Valley squad came up short in the final, however.

Representing the Turkeys at the Nationals were Alexis Gulash, Kimberly Hobson, Ashley MacDonald, Kristin MacLaggan, Hallie Marshall, Laura Spence, Mary Beth Todd and Kirsten Treais, along with coaches Laurent Lecellier and Tony Delario. Other team members this season include Deena Grady Berger, Gay Johnson, Susan Masters, Zoe Pinksa, Stacey Silver, Millicent Skiles, Pat Smith, Bettina Steffen, Lisa Taft and Diane Wagner.

This was the first season to be ranked at 3.5 for all eight players who competed in the tournament, however, six of the players reached the Nationals at 3.0 last year.

Girls tennis

Archie Williams swept through singles play en route to a 6-1 victory over Terra Linda on Thursday. The Falcons’ Carly Amborn, Allegra Dicarpegna, Maya Evans and Caroline Morris each won 6-0, 6-0.

The Trojans picked up a win at No. 3 doubles behind Jessica Diaz and Samantha Garcia, 6-2, 6-3.

• San Domenico lost to College Prep, 7-0, despite a strong effort by the No. 2 duo of Nina Polyakova and Mina Swaim in a 6-4, 5-7, 10-8 defeat.

Girls volleyball

Katherine Moriarty had 13 kills and three aces as Tam rolled to a 25-5, 25-23, 25-11 win against Analy on Thursday. Jade Curtin Savala added seven digs for the Red-tailed Hawks (25-7) while Wesley Slavin had 23 assists. Freshman setter Annie Payne had 10 assists and five digs. Tam can clinch the final MCAL playoff spot Friday with a win against San Marin combined with a Marin Catholic win against Archie Williams.

Women’s water polo

College of Marin fell to Ohlone, 10-6, in a game that was never out of reach for the Mariners until the closing minutes of the match on Wednesday.

Alana McCartney scored twice to give Marin a 2-0 lead to start the game in a series of major momentum swings. Ohlone rallied with four goals. The Mariners retook the lead in the third quarter with goals by Kailah Sarganis and two by Rebecca Janssen

Ohlone scored four more goals before McCartney netted her third goal to keep the game close, 8-6, early in the fourth quarter. Ohlone scored twice more to close out the game.

The Mariners are scheduled to host Sierra and Diablo Valley on Saturday at IVC in the Coast/Big 8 Crossover.
