Sinema shakes up the Senate with switch to independent – The Washington Post

Rep. David N. Cicilline (D-R.I.), who mounted a brief bid for the No. 4 position in the House Democratic caucus before pulling out last week, is poised to land elsewhere in the party leadership.

Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.), the incoming House Democratic leader, said Friday that he has nominated Cicilline to serve as parliamentarian of the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee, an assignment expected to be ratified in the coming days.

Last week, Cicilline announced a surprise challenge of Rep. James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.) for assistant leader, the No. 4 position among House Democrats. At the time, Cicilline, who is gay, argued that the LGBTQ community deserves a top leadership spot. He backed out before the vote, however, clearing the way for Clyburn to take the job.
