Sam Stosur is gay tennis player in US Open doubles semifinals – Outsports
Sam Stosur is into the US Open women’s doubles semifinals with her doubles partner, Shuai Zhang of China. The duo previously won the 2019 Australian Open.
Stosur is a doubles specialist, having won three of the four Grand Slam tournaments. Wimbledon has eluded her, having lost to the Williams sisters two of her three Wimbledon finals appearances.
She got her revenge against Serena Williams in the 2011 US Open final, beating Serena in straight sets.
Earlier this year, playing with fellow Aussie Ellen Perez, Stosur lost in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
Stosur has over the years played doubles with other LGBTQ women, including Lisa Raymond and Rennae Stubbs.
Stosur is gay, having last year announced the birth of her child with her partner, Liz Astling. She generally keeps a lower profile on her personal life.
In 2012, after a quarterfinals win in the French Open singles tournament, Stosur’s opponent, Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia, falsely accused Stosur of being a man.
