Royce Allen Gay – Herald Democrat – Sherman Denison Herald Democrat

“Royce Allen Gay was born on February 22, 1944 in Mooresville, North Carolina, to John and Jenny Gay. Royce passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, September 4, 2022, at the age of 78.

Royce is survived in death by his wife Marlene Gay (Turrell) of Denison, TX, his daughter Tammy Peters and Terry Osborne of Arlington, TX, his son Steve and Lora Redden of Pottsboro, TX, his daughter Kara and Justin Ireland of Sherman, TX, and his son Jon Gay and Chelbi Neely of Denison, TX. Royce is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Royce was preceded in death by his parents John and Jenny Gay (Whitman) and his son Brenton Royce Gay.

Royce grew up in Denison, TX, graduating from Denison High School in 1962. He attended college in Kansas where he received his Masters Degree in Education. Royce taught history and coached basketball in Kansas before returning to Denison in 1971. Here Royce pursued a career in law enforcement; first as a Denison Police Officer and then a Special Agent Texas Ranger with the Katy Railroad. He traveled several years with the railroad and in 1980 settled back down in Denison to begin a new career. He started with RGIS Inventory Specialists, and shortly after met the love of his life, Marlene. Royce retired from RGIS after 25 years of employment, and did his best to spend his remaining time enjoying his favorite past times and hobbies. These included being outdoors: camping, fishing, and hunting; and also watching or listening to anything TEXAS sport related. Royce will be available for viewing on Friday September 9th at Fisher Funeral Home at 604 W Main St in Denison Texas. Visitation will be from 6-8pm.”
