MOLLY YEH WITH RACHEL ANTONOFF

Mon, Oct 17, 6:30 pm, from $25

Host of Food Network’s Girl Meets Farm and bestselling author of IACP Award-winning cookbook Molly on the Range, the enchanting Molly Yeh joins us to talk about her latest cookbook, Home Is Where the Eggs Are . She brings stories about her life as an unexpected culinary star (and Juilliard-trained percussionist!), celebrating her Chinese-Jewish heritage and unabashed love of food with her Scandinavian-rooted husband and two young daughters on a sugar beet farm in East Grand Forks, MN. She talks about the recipes in her new book, built on irresistible, low-fuss, big flavor dishes like Babka Cereal, Mozzarella Stick Salad, and Hand-Pulled Noodles with Potsticker Filling Sauce, and shares the culinary philosophy we all want to live by: “Melt some butter, fry an egg, build a little memory around it – the feeling of home starts in the kitchen.”

EMILY IN PARIS ACTOR LUCAS BRAVO AND THE BIG BANG THEORY: THE DEFINITIVE, INSIDE STORY AUTHOR JESSICA RADLOFF IN CONVERSATION

Thu, Oct 20, 7 pm, from $20

Join Emily in Parisactor Lucas Bravo (“Chef Gabriel”) for a conversation with Glamour  senior editor Jessica Radloff, author of the highly anticipated new oral history, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series. While  Emily in Paris and The Big Bang Theory  aren’t the most likely combination, Bravo is a huge fan of the sitcom – which was a global phenomenon during its 12-year run – and told Radloff earlier this year that if her press tour took her to France, he’d want to moderate a panel. Well, we’re not in France, but we think this might even be better. Meanwhile, Bravo has had a stellar year on the big screen, starting with Focus Features’ Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris this summer, and the upcoming Universal Pictures’ feature film, Ticket to Paradise  (October 21) opposite Julia Roberts and George Clooney. Together, Bravo and Radloff will interview each other about what it was like collaborating with some of the biggest movie and TV stars (Roberts and Clooney for him; Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco and more for her) on their respective projects and the secrets behind Emily  and Big Bang—two of the most popular comedies of the last decade. There will be a photo op following the event for patrons who purchase the book.  ***NOTE: This 92NY event takes place at Baruch Performing Arts Center, Engelman Recital Hall, 55 Lexington Ave. (entrance on E. 25th St. between Lexington & 3rd Ave.)***

LYNN MELNICK: I’VE HAD TO THINK UP A WAY TO SURVIVE: TRAUMA, PERSISTENCE, AND DOLLY PARTON

With Deborah Paredes

Thu, Oct 20, 7 pm, $20

Lynn Melnick reads from and discusses her new memoir, I’ve Had to Think Up a Way to Survive: Trauma, Persistence, and Dolly Parton, a meditation on her grueling effort to reclaim her voice in the wake of loss and trauma, and Parton’s dual identities as feminist icon and objectified sex symbol. “What Melnick has managed is beyond mere tribute, and beyond biography—it is a rich, close reading of multiple lives that sometimes find themselves touching,” writes Hanif Abdurraqib. “The narratives in this book are masterfully presented and do justice not only to the life of its central subject but also to the life of its writer.” Signed and personalized copies of I’ve Had to Think Up a Way to Survive may be purchased with your ticket, courtesy of Posman Books.

A THIRD CHOICE: ANDREW YANG IN CONVERSATION WITH THANE ROSENBAUM

Tue, Oct 25, 7 pm, from $25

Our political “spectrum” has begun to look like a tug-of-war between not just two distinct political parties, but clashing, irreconcilable worldviews. With creeping extremism, “alternative facts,” “fake news,” and internet echo chambers, it seems that the days of putting our differences aside and coming to a compromise are over. One solution might be, “Why not start a third party?” FOLCS (Forum on Life, Culture & Society) returns with a politician who has done just that. Andrew Yang, former presidential candidate and leader of the newly formed Forward Party, joins Thane Rosenbaum for an intimate conversation on navigating America’s deep partisanship. Hear Yang speak to his experience on the front lines of our political system, and his thoughts about giving America a third choice. NOTE: This event will be followed by a book signing with Andrew Yang.

SHARON OLDS AND JOHN KEENE

Tue, Oct 25, 7:30 pm, from $20

Sharon Olds, who won the Frost Medal earlier this year, now publishes Balladz, a new book of poetry. “Her poems are pure fire in the hands–risky, on the verge of falling, and in the end leaping up,” wrote Michael Ondaatje. “I love the roughness and humor and brag and tenderness and completion in her work as she carries the reader through rooms of passion and loss.” John Keene’s Punks: New and Selected Poems  won the 2022 Thom Gunn Award for Gay Poetry. “Wow. Get Punks. Loads of ritual and performative lyric here, essential stuff,” wrote Eileen Myles. “Keene’s brain ranges through the past impossibly, like an elegant thrift. Then wrenching prose poems that are pretty much explorations of radiant metonymies of someone being black and queer like only John Keene is.” NOTE: This 92NY event takes place at NYPL’s Bruno Walter Auditorium, 111 Amsterdam Ave.

JACQUES PÉPIN IN CONVERSATION: THE ART OF THE CHICKEN

Wed, Oct 26, 6 pm, from $25

Chicken may not be a fancy or extravagant ingredient, but for master chef Jacques Pépin, it is the one he turns to regularly. In his newly illustrated book The Art of the Chicken: A Master Chef’s Paintings, Stories, and Recipes of the Humble Bird , Jacques reminisces on his life through the lens of the humble bird, from his childhood in rural France, where he chased chickens and watched as his maman turned them into her poulet à la crème, to his demanding apprenticeship and long, illustrious career—cooking Chicken Chasseur for Charles de Gaulle and his family, turning down a chance to work as JFK’s White House Chef for a job at Howard Johnson’s, and appearing on television alongside food-world luminaries like Julia Child. Join us when he shares stories, favorite recipes and perhaps even is coaxed into displaying some of the dozens of his stunning paintings of chickens. “If it clucks or scratches, it’s likely that Jacques has painted it,” he says.
