Pride events: Day of Acceptance, Warwick; ‘Day to be Gay,’ Callicoon – Times Herald-Record
Three large-scale events are planned for the Hudson Valley and Catskills regions to celebrate Pride.
Day of Acceptance, June 12
A family-friendly day with brunch, a parade and live entertainment, this Pride event celebrating the LGBTQ+ community and allies starts at 11 a.m. at the Warwick Valley Community Center, 11 Hamilton Ave.
Everyone is invited to decorate floats, make processional art for the parade, enjoy a free rainbow bagel brunch and dance to DJ Skyhook.
Mental health and support organization booths will also be available.
Acting Out Playhouse presents a medley of tunes from “Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” at 12:30 p.m. The parade steps off at 1:30.
Other events: Pride Drag Show, 2:45 p.m. at the Center, Mistress of Ceremonies Eve Starr joined by guest star Evita Loca, from New York City. Audience members are invited to join them on stage and can register for So You Think You Can Drag. More details on the Community Center’s FB event page. Catskills Pride, June 18
Catskills Pride Celebration + Callicoon celebrates the LGBTQIA+ businesses and marks the 20th anniversary of the hamlet’s “Day to Be Gay,” 1-6 p.m. The event will include unique offerings, specials and events throughout the day.
Celebration Station will be the central focal point of the celebration, and will be located at the Callicoon Depot which connects Upper and Lower Main streets. There will be a large tent, offerings from local food and beverage vendors, seating with umbrellas, free refreshments, a water station as well as information and announcements.
Catskills Pride is hosting a Super Social between three venues; Catskills Provisions, The Western and Callicoon Brewery on upper Main street. Hosted by Ms. Belle Pepper and resident DJ Tikka Masala. A Pride Afterparty, open to all ages, will run from 8-11:30 p.m. at the Delaware Youth Center, 8 Creamery Road, Callicoon. Tickets are $10 in advance online or $12 at the door. Pride in the Park, June 18
The Newburgh LGBTQ Center hosts a Pride festival, 12-4 p.m. at Downing Park, Newburgh. Events include: 12:30 Drag Story Hour “Julian is a Mermaid” by Jessica Love; 1 p.m. Hula Hoop Workshop led by Zanyell; 2 p.m. Stand Up Comedy by Kailey Strafford (Content innapropriate for young audiences); 2:30 Drag performances by Show Ponii, Andromeda, Venus and Katerina.
