Peru rejects “gay marriage” – International Family News
Peru’s parliamentary justice committee has rejected a legislative initiative that would have allowed same-sex couples to marry, writes the Catholic weekly newspaper Die Tagespost.
According to the report, at the beginning of January, 12 of the 18 parliamentarians represented in the committee rejected the motion for legal equality, while two spoke in favor of it. The remaining four members abstained from voting. An earlier motion to discuss the legislative initiative was also defeated.
Peru is one of the last Latin American countries where same-sex partnerships are not recognized as marriage.
