
Paul Feinman, a former legal aid attorney who rose to become the first openly gay judge on New Yorkβs highest court, has died.
Feinmanβs death was announced on Wednesday by the state Court of Appeals Chief Judge Janet DiFiore.
He was 61 and retired from the bench earlier in March citing health reasons.
βJudge Feinman was a bright, experienced and knowledgeable jurist who made an extraordinary impact on the Court of Appeals and the law of our state. He was also a kind and gentle man who was loved by many,β DiFiore said in a statement.
