‘P-Valley’ Fans Slam Lil Duval For Reaction To Gay Love Scene, Star J. Alphonse Nicholson And Writer Patrik-Ian Polk Weigh In – Yahoo News
Comedian Lil Duval is getting backlash over his comments about the latest episode of P-Valley, which featured a sex scene between characters Lil Murda (J. Alphonse Nicholson) and Big Teak (John Clarence Stewart).
Lil Duval tweeted, “Yea p valley lost me. They need a super gay advisory on movies like the they got for everything else. Cause That’s a lot to see if u not use to it.”

‘P-Valley’ writer Patrik-Ian Polk, also known for creating the historic LGBT series Noah’s Arc, tweeted his own response to Lil Duval.
As a writer and producer of P Valley, specifically a writer of this episode, I encourage you to step away from Chucalissa. This show is not for you. Go watch something else. Cuz the gay ain’t goin’ nowhere. #pvalley https://t.co/1Wwx1kHEdA

“I’m kidding, of course. In all seriousness, if you find the show too uncomfortable to watch, you’re welcome to change the channel and watch something else. But why feel the need to come online and spew your homophobic nonsense? We don’t care!” he continued. He also tweeted, “The reality is: a lot of these “straight” men are triggered by these gay love scenes. Watching them brings up questions they have about their own sexuality. That ain’t got nothing to do with us or #PValley. Do the work; look inward!”

Viewers of the show also called him out on his criticism, saying it was homophobic since he and others didn’t have a problem with the series’ inclusion of a sex scene between two women, Mercedes (Brandee Evans) and Farrah (Shamika Cotton).
“[N]otice the pearl clutching, complaints & overall ignorant BS arguments R in regards to Lil Murda/Big Teak love scene only – but not Mercedes & Farrah!” wrote one viewer. “IMO bc wlw sex scenes are, more times than not, viewed through a fetishization, okay and/or more tolerable lens.”

In response to the ongoing backlash, Lil Duval tweeted out a series of explanations that just made his initial reaction more convoluted.
“I can watch gay people all day but i don’t wanna see them fck. And that’s not homophonic [sic] cuz i feel the same way about my momma,” he wrote. “I can watch my momma but i don’t wanna see her FCK!!!! Do y’all get it?”
“And no the lesbian [sex scenes] ain’t bother me cuz I’m use to it,” he continued. “That what y’all missing. It’s about what you’re USE TO! you’re always gon be shocked at something you’re not use to. That’s human nature. U can’t just throw something on somebody and be offended cuz they shocked.”

Fans of the series continued to educate and roast Lil Duval for his tweets, with one writing, “The problem is that cishet folks regard trans and queer experiences as entertainment. Seeing trans and queer forms of intimacy, the discomfort comes from having to view the community as human, NOT vehicles for you to normalize your bigotry.”

Another wrote, “If you are a hetero Black man that is pressed by gay sex. You are just a bigot. This is about the fact that Black men do not want to unlearn their bigotry. They are making the active choice not to deprogram themselves from the ku klux clownery indoctrinated into them.”

Nicholson has released his own response regarding the backlash.
He wrote, “The love is real the hate is real. As an actor the ultimate goal is to be as believable as possible. Relax, precise, fierce. Although [P-Valley] is a fictional story I’m grateful for the real conversations that are being had. Job well done.”
