At Deloitte, we believe in authenticity. When we bring our true selves to every aspect of our lives, we invite others to do the same, creating a butterfly effect of powerful and vibrant change.
The partnership
At Deloitte, we’re proud to partner with Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Sydney WorldPride. A key aspect of this partnership is helping to bring WorldPride 2023 to the rest of the world from the Southern Hemisphere, for the first time in the event’s history.
Our partnership with WorldPride and Mardi Gras gives us the opportunity to be part of broader discussions about diversity and inclusion – not just for our LGBTQIA+ communities, but for those of different cultures, identities, genders, and the First Nations community.
“WorldPride is about diversity in all its forms and the coming together of the LGBTQIA+ community with culturally diverse communities across the world. We have the opportunity to be part of unified conversations around diversity and the development of a more inclusive society for all.” – Deloitte Digital Partner and WorldPride Engagement Partner, Robbie Robertson
We’re proud to have been on a journey with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras teams since 2019, supporting the WorldPride bid. We worked with the Mardi Gras team by providing pro-bono commercial, digital, design and project management support.
We’re continuing to provide support for Sydney WorldPride and Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras’ operations and impact. Over the coming years, we’ll be working with WorldPride in a variety of areas, including digital and the role of technology in LGBTQIA+ inclusion. Our Deloitte Digital team will create a platform to bring WorldPride to those who can’t be there due physical distance, discrimination, or fear of coming out. The platform will be shared globally with the aim of reaching 56 million people across the globe, allowing them to watch, engage and celebrate virtually. We’re also working closely with the WorldPride team, providing capability and support across the breadth and depth of Deloitte’s services, including Human Capital, Tax, Advisory, Operations and Project Management.
You’ll also see us at all upcoming Mardi Gras events, including Fair Day and the parade. We’ll be coming together with our communities to celebrate passion, diversity, inclusion, hope, and our authentic selves.
Alongside our project capability, we were selected as a key partner of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and Sydney WorldPride given our focus on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and commitment to LGBTQIA+ inclusion, internally at Deloitte and across our communities.
Our commitment to DEI and LGBTQIA+ inclusion
At Deloitte, we believe that when we can be our authentic selves, there is no limit to what we can achieve.
“When individuals can truly be their authentic selves they can work more purposefully. Our DEI strategy and actions are focused on putting this belief at the forefront of all our conversations –with our people, our clients and the community, and we are continuously improving our policies, frameworks and initiatives to create an inclusive and safe environment for everyone to be their best.” – National DEI Lead Partner, Pip Dexter
Some of the ways we have shared this commitment:
Outstanding 50 LGBTI+ Leaders Report: In 2020, we launched the third ‘Outstanding 50 LGBTI+ Leaders Report’ in partnership with Google and EnergyAustralia, dedicated to sharing share the impactful stories of LGBTQIA+ role models and further inspiring our entire community to work towards creating more inclusive workplaces and communities. The purpose of this report is to help LGBTQIA+ people ‘be what they see’, inspiring a new generation of leaders from many diverse parts of our community.
Rainbow Families: Deloitte Australia and our LGBTQIA+ Network StandOUT, partner with LGBTQIA+ community organisation Rainbow Families who are the voice for and champion of LGBTQIA+ families and prospective parents in NSW.
As part of our workplace giving program, our people can sign up to support a charity of their choice which is automatically deducted from their salary on a monthly basis. The LGBTQIA+ charity in Deloitte’s workplace giving program is Rainbow Families.
Australian LGBTQ Inclusion Awards: In May 2021, Deloitte was awarded Gold Employer Status at the 2021 Australian LGBTQ Inclusion Awards in Sydney by Pride in Diversity. This was based on the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI). This is the third time Deloitte has been awarded Gold.
Our policies and practices: We’re committed to creating a workplace that is truly inclusive. Ensuring our people feel valued, supported and safe is vital to creating a culture where all of our people can bring their true and best self to work. We know that when an individual affirms their gender in the workplace their requirements and experience will be unique. Dedicated, flexible support options are available to all our people, to ensure a positive experience and a successful process. At Deloitte, we aim to provide flexibility and choice in how our people care for their children. Our parental leave policy provides 18 weeks of paid leave inclusive of all types of families including birth, adoptive, surrogate, foster and same-sex parents. We also encourage all our people to add their personal pronouns to their email signatures as we know that sharing personal pronouns – regardless of gender identity – is an impactful step to strengthening our inclusive culture.
Deloitte has a Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) – Walking together: As a firm, we understand that we have a lot to learn, and that a great future requires truthfulness about the past. We are excited to become increasingly bolder about the opportunity to put Indigenous insights at the centre of the way we work and carry ourselves as an organisation.
We look forward to partnering with Sydney WorldPride, Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras and our broader communities to celebrate as one and demonstrate our leadership in creating a more inclusive society for all.
