One Million Moms wants Shea Couleé cut from Marvel series – PinkNews

The eternally outraged One Million Moms have set their sights on Shea Couleé and her upcoming Marvel series, Ironheart.
Drag Race All Stars winner Shea Couleé is starring in the series in an as-yet unconfirmed role – though some fans think she’ll feature as superpowered drag queen Shade.
But One Milliion Moms – an offshoot of the designated hate group American Family Association, which opposes LGBTQ+ rights and abortion, among other things – has stated Couleé’s casting means “Disney and Marvel place more importance on LGBTQ indoctrination than they do on the well-being of children”.
It adds: “Disney and Marvel cannot be trusted to provide clean, wholesome entertainment for families.
“Therefore, my family will boycott the Ironheart series entirely. I also pledge to warn other moms and urge them to do the same.”
The group is notorious for taking aim at LGBTQ-inclusive projects. Despite its name, it’s thought to have anywhere from one to a few thousand supporters – the Shea Couleé petition has 16,000 signatures at the time of writing.
The longer description of the bigoted appeal noted how Disney became embroiled in the row surrounding Florida’s Don’t Say Gay law.
Disney was criticised for initially refusing to stand against the bill, and after protests came out in opposition.
One Million Moms wrote: “Wrongly characterised by political opponents as the ‘Don’t Say Gay‘ bill, the law took effect 1 July, prohibiting classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity in Florida public schools for students in kindergarten through third grade.”
The ‘Don’t Say Gay‘ law has not, in fact, been “wrongly characterised”.
It bans all conversation surrounding sexuality and gender expression from schools, endangering and silencing LGBTQ+ children in schools across the Sunshine State.
The petition continues: “Bowing to pressure from employees to respond after initially remaining silent, Disney vowed to combat the bill and to integrate more LGBTQ characters and storylines into its movies and shows.
“Months after publicly vowing to increase the percentage of LGBTQ characters and plots in its productions, children’s entertainment giant Walt Disney has cast a drag industry superstar in an upcoming Marvel superhero series.”
The group wants Shea cut from the series entirely – which seems highly unlikely given the rapturous reception her casting received.
Ironheart follows genius inventor Riri Williams (Dominique Thorpe), who is due to be introduced in the upcoming Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Hailed in the comics as a successor of Tony Stark, Williams builds similarly high-powered suits of armour.
