In July, Schnapp, 18, confirmed that his character, Will, identifies as gay, telling Variety, “Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike. But before, it was a slow arc.” Before that confirmation, Schnapp had been vague about Will’s sexuality, but told Variety that is seemed clear from the beginning. “They’ve been intentionally pulling that out over the past few seasons,” he said. “Even in season one, they hinted at that and slowly, slowly grew that storyline.”

In comments on his TikTok, fans were quick to support the actor, cheering him on and telling him they’re happy for and proud of him. Naturally, fans of Stranger Things loved Noah Schnapp’s caption on his TikTok comparing himself to Will. Some joked that he’s taking method acting to a new level. Netflix even responded in the comments with heart emoji.
