Noah Schnapp Comes Out as Gay on TikTok – Them
Sometimes, life imitates art.
Such is the case with actor Noah Schnapp, who took to TikTok on Thursday afternoon to come out as gay.
“I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” Schnapp wrote in a caption for the TikTok. “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know.’”

Schnapp’s personal revelation comes after he confirmed in July that his character on the Netflix hit Stranger Things, Will Byers, is gay. He also said that it’s pretty clear that Will is in love with his friend Mike.
“I mean, it’s pretty clear this season that Will has feelings for Mike,” Schnapp told Variety at the time. “They’ve been intentionally pulling that out over the past few seasons […] For Season 4, it was just me playing this character who loves his best friend but struggles with knowing if he’ll be accepted or not, and feeling like a mistake and like he doesn’t belong. Will has always felt like that.”
“Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing,” Schnapp added. “Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike.”
Though the two are just friends and not romantic partners on the sci-fi show, they were actually the most-shipped couple on Tumblr in 2022, ranking highest on a list that included all queer relationships in the top 12.
