Summary
Nick Kimutis is a first-year master’s student in the Department of Public Health Epidemiology. Nick also works as a graduate research assistant in the Western Regional Climate Center located at the Desert Research Institute. Nick is interested in the intersection of climate change and public health and has research interests in health disparities associated with extreme heat events as well as changes in air quality due to wildfire smoke and its effect on outdoor workers. Before beginning graduate studies, Nick graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with a B.S. in Molecular Microbiology and Immunology.
As both an undergraduate and graduate student, Nick is deeply committed to service and volunteering both with campus organizations and the broader Reno Community. As someone who identifies as gay, Nick is deeply passionate about inclusivity, diversity, equity, and accessibility issues, particularly in the scientific and academic communities. Nick finds teaching and mentoring to be incredibly rewarding and hopes to continue to have the opportunity to give back in the coming years.
