New monkeypox cases fuel LGBT calls for more action – The Times

Two more monkeypox cases have been detected in Scotland, bringing the number of confirmed cases north of the border to almost 70 since May.

Figures released by Public Health Scotland revealed yesterday that there have been 67 confirmed cases of the virus north of the border since May 23. It is an increase of two since the previous update on Tuesday.

LGBT groups from across the political spectrum have joined forces to demand greater efforts to combat monkeypox or risk it becoming endemic. So far the virus has mostly affected gay and bisexual men.

On Thursday the United States declared a public health emergency over the virus, following the announcement of a global emergency by the World Health Organisation
