N.Y. Library Reverses Ban on Kids’ LGBTQ Displays After Governor Orders Investigation – Bloomberg
A Long Island library voted to reverse its ban on displays and books about LGBTQ identity in children’s sections after New York Governor Kathy Hochul ordered an investigation into bias.
In an emergency meeting, which drew more than 1,000 people online, the board of the Smithtown Library voted 4-2 in favor of the reversal with one trustee abstaining. The library, which has locations in four towns in the greater New York City area, will reinstate the displays immediately and keep them to at least July 15, and longer if supervising librarians choose. In a statement, the board said it would review its decision-making processes and policies on displays, programs and services.
