They are running out of money, running out of time, and running away. Be thoroughly entertained when Diego Loyzaga and Christian Bables become “Bekis on the Run” in multi-awarded director Joel Lamangan’s upcoming comedy-drama movie, coming to Vivamax in September.
Andres (Loyzaga) and his gay brother Donald (Bables) try to rob a construction site, but things get complicated, leaving them no choice but to run. They get the sympathy of many, especially the gay community, when Nanay Pacing (Lou Veloso), the reason behind their theft, goes viral on social media when she talks about her medical condition and how the brothers only wanted to help her get the money for her operation.
Loyzaga and Bables are joined by Kylie Verzosa as Adriana, Andres’ partner, and Sean De Guzman as Martin, Donald’s ex-boyfriend.
Noted for the fresh casting, Lamangan said in a virtual interview that he had only worked with De Guzman in “Anak ng Macho Dancer” before but found Loyzaga, Bables and Verzosa to be very talented professional actors on the set.
The three, as de Guzman still was, admitted they were in awe of the legendary director throughout filming, Bables in fact revealed it was Lamangan who convinced him to do a bed and torrid kissing scene with De Guzman for Bekis.
“I’ve done gay roles before, but I’ve never done anything like this in those movies,” Bables, who won four major awards for portraying a gay best friend in the 2016 blockbuster “Die Beautiful,” declared.
Asked how he fared, the talented actor who would proceed to win Best Actor in his socio-political starrer “Signal Rock” in 2018 replied, “As actors, I believe that when we portray a role, we become that character at that moment. So with direk Joel’s excellent guidance, I was Donald at that moment, in love with Martin, so it was a natural thing to do. I didn’t think about it anymore,”

Besides being a comedy-drama film, Bekis on the Run will also tackle corruption and least-talked topics such as gay men in the military. Coming from direk Joel Lamangan, there is undoubtedly a lot to look forward to in the movie.
