Montserrat is reopening to tourism, while the Cayman Islands will remain closed – Travel Weekly
One Caribbean island has announced its reopening while another has put reopening plans on hold.
Montserrat will reopen to stayover visitors on Oct. 1. However, the island is requiring a five-day quarantine, and visitors must take a PCR test on the fourth day.
All visitors over age 12 must be fully vaccinated, provide proof of a negative PCR test result taken within five days of arrival, and complete an online preclearance registration form three days prior to arrival.
The island remains closed to cruise traffic with no port reopening date at this time.
“Montserrat had had a total of 31 positive cases since we closed our borders on March 14, 2020,” said Warren Solomon, director of tourism. “We follow health and safety protocols as well as indoor masking and social distancing.”
Covid-19 cases up in Cayman Islands
Meanwhile, the Cayman Islands has put its border reopening plans on hold due to a rise in Covid cases. The Cayman Islands, shut down since March 2020, had planned to reopen the border for vaccinated travelers on Oct. 14.
However, the rise in Covid cases is a “game-changer,” said Cayman Islands premier Wayne Panton. Therefore, a reopening won’t occur this year.
American Airlines and United, which had earlier expressed interest in resuming limited flight schedules this fall, are now unlikely to operate those flights, according to tourism minister Kenneth Bryan.
