  • Same sex relations are still a taboo in India.
Gwalior: A 20-year-old youth hanged himself after killing his partner in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. Tired of glares because of his homosexuality, he took the extreme step, Dainik Bhaskar reported.

“Mummy, Papa, everyone misunderstood me. I wanted to live, but as long as he is alive, I cannot live. He has been doing wrong things to me for four years. I know my pain. Everyone misunderstood me because he was younger. I was not wrong. He used to blackmail me. Used to say – if you do not come to me, then I will tell everyone, I will send you to jail.

I am dying, but have taught him a lesson before. After taking revenge, now I am going too. Everyone thought him to be an innocent guy, but he has given me a lot of pain. He used to call anytime to have sex. I got him the expensive bicycle he has. For this, I stole from the house. Mummy-papa, please forgive me…”

This suicide note belongs to a 20-year-old young man from Gwalior. He suffered from confusion regarding his sexuality and the stigma that came with it for four years.

After feeling suffocated, tired of blackmailing, and acts he felt abominable about, he ended his own life. This incident is just an example.

If we look at the data, every year more than 100 cases of homosexuality are reported in Madhya Pradesh. These are the cases which are recorded in the police records. Actually, the figures are much higher.

A 24-year-old engineering student took a plunge from his house oof, hoping to end his life over his inability to understand his emotions over homosexuality. Some cases of parents beating their children over sexuality also came to light in Madhya Pradesh, Dainik Bhaskar reported a doctor saying.

Because of the beating and the stigma, homosexuals often believe themselves to be guilty. In a country like India, where even regular sex talk is considered taboo, homosexuality serves pretty much as a death sentence for many.
