Man spends £6,000 transforming himself into real-life Ken doll after years of bullying – Mirror.co.uk

A man who for years was called “ugly” by homophobic bullies has splashed out £6,000 on transforming himself into a real life Ken Doll – but admits it turns potential suitors off.

Christian Chavez, 29, a hairdresser and makeup artist from Chihuahua, Mexico, has had multiple surgeries to fix his insecurities.

Inspired by his fascination with the beauty of Ken, and being disparaged by bullies growing up, Christian decided to take matters into his own hands.

At just 19 years old, he had his first procedure a non-surgical nose job, where fillers are injected into the nose to straighten and smooth its appearance.

After noticing the improvement, Christian went back two months later for lip fillers, and then again for filler in his chin and cheeks.

Around six months later, he decided to get Botox injections in his face, followed by a rhinoplasty and a fat removal from his cheeks two years later.

The following year, he had a second rhinoplasty and a hair transplant, and took a break from procedures to stop himself from going too far.

He felt as if he was losing sight of the look he was after, and didn’t want to have any regrets. In mid-2021, his desire for surgery kicked in again and he had a fox-eye procedure where the eyes and eyebrow are elongated with medical threads.

Christian has spent around £6,000 on his surgeries, with each rhinoplasty costing around £1,500.

While he says some people may be put off by him looking “too feminine or too gay”, that doesn’t put bother him “too much” as he says: “I love myself”.

He has the full support of his family and claims that his surgical transformation has boosted his self-esteem and helped to ease his social anxiety.

Now, Christian goes by Criss Ken Doll on social media and aims to show people that they can be truly happy when they find their own version of beauty and work to improve themselves.

“When I was a kid, I used to be so insecure because I’m gay and I felt so ugly and out of place,” said Christian.

“As the years went on, I developed more insecurities. I started to suffer from social anxiety and panic attacks because I never felt accepted.

“I was so afraid of everything, because I had no confidence in myself.

“As a Gemini, I’ve always been social, but at that point in my life, I just couldn’t relate to people.

“I wasn’t happy at all because I always felt judged by people around me.

“I started to see celebrities changing their appearance through surgeries, so I decided to make some changes.”

He spoke of how his transformation was inspired by Ken dolls “because they’re so perfect, but they’re all different shapes and colours”.

Christian added: “I feel like beauty is whatever people want it to be. Everybody can be the Ken doll or the Barbie they want to be.”

He went on: “Plastic surgery has helped my self-esteem.

“I used to be insecure but now I feel like I can take on the world if I want to. “I love to look over the top and stand out from others. I like to look plastic, but in a good way, without crossing the line.

“The best thing about the procedures has been my confidence. Every change I make is to make myself better. It makes me feel beautiful.

“It’s strange at the beginning, because surgery is a big change. At first, you feel like you don’t recognise the person in front of the mirror. That’s why you need to be sure about every change you make to yourself.

“Through this journey, I’ve realised that I want to be the best version of myself. I want to shut out the people who bullied me in the past.

“I want to spread the message that there are so many faces of beauty and that’s okay.

“We’re all beautiful, all of us have insecurities, but that’s fine.

“I’m not saying that everyone should get surgery, but if you think there’s something that you can change to make you feel better, do it for you.

“Don’t follow trends, find your own beauty.”
