Lizzo Declares “Everybody’s Gay” on New Song – Them

You heard it here first, folks: Everybody’s gay. Lizzo said so. All heteros please report to city hall for your new QueerID.

Lizzo’s new album Special is finally here, and tucked among its expectedly catchy tunes is a new instant club staple, the bluntly-titled “Everybody’s Gay.” A dance pop crooner with unmistakable Michael Jackson vibes, the song is a love letter to gyrating in a queer bar surrounded by LGBTQuties of every gender.

It’s frankly a bop from start to finish, but that second verse will live rent-free in every pansexual’s brain, as Lizzo flits between sexy nurses and a “Mona Lisa moaning” to also appreciate how “the mister got a monster too.” “Big dick,” add her backup singers, helpfully.

Lizzo has never been shy about loving folks of all kinds. “When it comes to sexuality or gender, I personally don’t ascribe to just one thing. I cannot sit here right now and tell you I’m just one thing,” she told Teen Vogue in 2018. “That’s why the colors for LGBTQ+ are a rainbow! Because there’s a spectrum and right now we try to keep it black and white. That’s just not working for me.”

She’s also been an ally for others in the community, most recently seen correcting paparazzi on Demi Lovato’s pronouns and vocally opposing regressive policies on trans children and abortion rights. Another track on Special, “Grrrlz,” was initially criticized for including a lyric using the ableist term “spaz,” after which Lizzo apologized and re-recorded the line.
