LGBTQ Artists Advance Trimmed Suit Over Erased Gay Bar Murals – Bloomberg Law

The artists who created murals on the exterior of a famous San Francisco gay bar called The Stud managed to advance a trimmed lawsuit against the building owner who painted over the murals after the bar shut down.

US District Judge Edward M. Chen on Tuesday ruled that the artists’ amended complaint adequately showed that the murals could have been removed from the building without being destroyed. The building owner, City Commercial Investments LLC, therefore should have notified the artists of its plans to erase the murals, as required by the Visual Artists Rights Act.
