Letter: Today’s Republican Party puts justice, morals aside – Reading Eagle

Editor:

The traditional Republican Party I once belonged to has turned tribal. Only money and power matter; justice and morals don’t.
More than 100 Republican primary winners nationwide support the big lie of a stolen election. Doug Mastriano, candidate for Pennsylvania governor, was the designated carrier of fake electoral ballots on Jan. 6, 2021.

Berks County U.S. Rep. Dan Meuser is one of 147 Republicans in the U.S. House, who voted to overturn the 2020 election. He voted against allowing automatic VA enrollment for veterans. Every House Republican voted against seeking and removing Nazis and white supremacists from the military. Republican senators blocked health care for veterans sickened by burn pits.

The Second Amendment refers to “a well-regulated militia,” but Republicans routinely block gun restrictions. Underage Kyle Rittenhouse crossed state lines, killed two people with an AR-15 and went unpunished, but 205 Republicans voted against women’s rights to interstate travel, 195 voted against the right to birth control and 156 voted against codifying the right to interracial and same sex marriages.

Now women can be forced to deliver a baby, but nobody can be forced to deliver a wedding cake.

Republicans want to ban books but not guns. Books never killed anyone. Reading about LGBTQ people doesn’t make kids gay any more than reading about Albert Einstein makes them geniuses.

In January former President Donald Trump said if the voting rights bill passed, Republicans would never win again. They killed the bill.

Where are the reasonable, rational Republicans?
