Is he… you know… traveling around the whole world solving extravagant murder mysteries?

Ahead of the highly anticipated Knives Out sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premiere, director Rian Johnson confirmed that central detective Benoit Blanc, played by Daniel Craig, is queer.

Spoiler alert: At one point in Glass Onion, it’s implied that Benoit is currently living with another man. When asked whether this means the character is queer during a London Film Festival press screening, Johnson responded: “Yes, he obviously is.”

It would seem that the identity of the famous actor who makes a cameo as Benoit’s partner is being kept under wraps, which, fair. However, Johnson said of the surprise beau: “There’s nobody in the world I can imagine bringing me more joy for Benoit Blanc to be with. No spoilers, but [who] wouldn’t want to live with that person?”

Picking up after the events of Knives Out, the latest installment finds Benoit pitted against a whole new cast of characters as his latest investigation brings him to sunny Greece. Apart from Craig, Glass Onion’s ensemble cast also includes Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Edward Norton, Leslie Odom Jr., and more.

Meanwhile, Hugh Grant, Yo-Yo Ma, and the late Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim are credited as playing themselves. Ethan Hawke is also listed on the film’s IMDb, albeit in an uncredited role. Is he secretly playing Benoit’s man? Since another Knives Out sequel is already in the works at Netflix, hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve seen of our favorite ascot-loving detective’s home life.

Viewers can delve into the mystery that is Benoit’s love life when Glass Onion opens in select U.S. theaters starting November 23, before arriving on Netflix on December 23.

Benoit Blanc joins the growing canon of mystery solvers who have been recently been confirmed as queer, namely, iconic Scooby-Doo character Velma Dinkley, who is canonically a lesbian in the new movie Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo!
