Kicker Rankings: NFL Fantasy Week 5 – Athlon Sports
So a quick fantasy story that many of you can probably relate to for my introduction to my Week 5 fantasy kicker rankings.
One of my friends who also is an Eagles fan was really torn about whether or not he should bench/drop Jake Elliott given the weather this past Sunday. And in his opinion, Matt Gay was the best free-agent kicker available in his league. After waffling back and forth, he decided to stick with Elliott, especially since his league limits the total amount of moves you can make. As you might be aware, that didn’t work out so well.
In addition, this same friend had another league in which he was winning going into the MNF game, but thanks to Gay’s output that night, ended up losing his other league game. As he was complaining to me early this week, Gay bit him in the butt twice this week.
So Matt Gay is definitely on my radar. He’s actually having a pretty decent season. He’s not only a perfect 7-for-7 on extra points, but he’s also a perfect 7-for-7 on field goals, including one from beyond 50 yards.
Additionally, Gay also has a great matchup this week. His opponent, Dallas, has given up the third-most fantasy points to kickers. I still like some of the top options that the Expert Consensus Rankings (ECR) like as well such as Justin Tucker, Evan McPherson, and Tyler Bass. However, I have enough confidence in Gay this week, that unlike the ECR, I have him as a top-5 fantasy option.
