Last week in the Inter-community League, Cody Daldo pounded out an 843 series which included a 300 game, to overtake DeWayne Harris’ 801 series in the Monday Night Classic League as the top male series of the week. Harris also had a perfect game in his series, as did Erik Springer and John Heck in that same League and Jamie Register in the Sunday Night Mixed League. Shawn Pepperman would have rolled the sixth 300 of the week but left a pin on his last ball in the Monday Night Classic League, and had to settle for a 299. Stacy Gridley won top female honors for the week by posting a 649 series in the Susquehanna Health League, while Alicia Edkin’s 263 in the Monday Night Classic was the top female game of the week.

Following are other available highest scores in each local league last week:

This week we remember 1980 local Hall of Fame inductee Charlie Frey. Frey was the best bowler at the Williamsport Moose Lanes in the 1960s and 70s. His averages there from 1967-72 were right around the 200 mark, placing him among the top 10 averages in the local association in each of those seasons. In 1972, Frey’s 200 average was good enough for 2nd place on that season’s high average list.

Frey was elected to the local association All-Star team in 1970 and ’72. His career high series was 735 and his career-high game was 279. Frey began his career by setting pins in 1941 at the age of 14 at the Montoursville Moose Lanes. He originally bowled left-handed as a teenager, but switched to a right-handed delivery in the service during World War 2, due to the fact that he could not find a left-handed ball to use.

Hope to see you on the lanes.
