Jesse Williams will star in the television adaptation of “Take Me Out.”
Richard Greenberg’s Tony Award-winning play, which tackles baseball and homosexuality, is set to be adapted as a limited-edition television series starring Jesse, Deadline reports.
Many of the plays are set in the changing rooms of professional baseball teams and feature male casts on the themes of homosexuality, racism, class, and masculinity in sports.
Darren Lemming, the main character who is a player of the fictitious Empire Major League Baseball team that appears as gay, will appear.
At the time of writing the play, the MLB player had never been open to the public during his career.
Jesse will not only play Lemming in the series, but also the revival of Broadway in 2022, which was delayed due to COVID-19.
Greenburgh adapts his play to a small screen, and Scott Ellis directs the pilot and Broadway revival.
Meanwhile, 40-year-old Jesse is best known for his role as Dr. Jackson Avery in “Grey’s Anatomy,” which left this year 12 seasons later.
Producer / Showrunner Krista Vernoff said in a statement before the final episode of May: Such deep care, and so much intelligence for his work. We will miss Jesse terribly, and we will miss Jackson Avery — played perfectly for many years. “
