Colorado’s Jared Polis, the first openly gay man to be elected governor in the U.S., married his longtime partner Marlon Reis on Wednesday.
“The greatest lesson we have learned over the past 18 months is that life as we know it can change in an instant,” Polis tweeted. “We are thankful for the opportunity to celebrate our life together as a married couple.”

The couple had a small outdoor ceremony in Boulder that was officiated by Rabbi Tirzah Firestone, the governor’s office said.
Polis and Reis, a writer and animal rights advocate, have been together for 18 years. The governor proposed in December, just before Reis was hospitalized with COVID-19. The couple has two young children.
