James Reese Bowen of Liberty, Utah passed away August 16, 2021, at the age of 62 due to complications from an aneurysm. Jim was born in Provo, Utah on October 30, 1958, to George and Diane Bowen. He grew up in Bountiful and Eden, Utah. He attended Weber High School where he met and made life-long friends and fell in love with the rancher’s daughter, Sidney Hadlock. He played on the Weber High School basketball team and rode bulls for the Spikers Rodeo Club.
Jim went on to attend college at Southern Utah University and was on the rodeo team. When he returned home, he married Sidney on August 24, 1979. Most of all, Jim loved Sidney his wife of 42 years. Together, they raised 3 children: Carsen, Jordan, and Walt. Jim and Sidney spent most of their kids’ childhood riding horses as a family and rodeoing all over the states. Jim was a hard worker. He worked several jobs in the construction industry and later went on to own Bowen Construction. He and Sidney enjoyed lots of time on the road traveling to team roping events, hitting the good fishing holes, and supporting their children and grandchildren in all their different activities. Jim loved serving his family anyway he could. Jim enjoyed winters in Arizona with their friends and family. He loved talking to people and was always the life of the party. His smile, good humor, love, and support will be greatly missed by many.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sidney Bowen; his father, George (Marge) Bowen; sister Kris (Chad) Crowther; brother John (Tiffany) Bowen, sister Jamie (Kirk) Dean; children Carsen (Brandon) Gay, Jordan (Ben) Tibbitts, Walt (Lynzee) Bowen; grandchildren, Kash, Challis, Jake, J.T., Josey, and Maquade. Jim was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Diane Bowen; mother-in-law Eileen Hadlock, father-in-law Bill Hadlock; great niece Kolbi Christensen, and many grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at the Huntsville Stake Center, 6500 East 1900 North, Eden, Utah, 84310, on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 11:00 am. Viewings on Sunday, August 22, from 5:00-7:00 pm, and Monday, August 23, from 9:00-10:15 am. Jim’s funeral service will be live-streamed on his obituary page at www.myers-mortuary.com where condolences may also be sent to the family.
