Is Betty DeVille gay in Rugrats reboot?

The Rugrats reboot is officially confirming what viewers in the 90s and early 2000s already assumed.

Betty DeVille, Phil and Lil’s mom, is openly gay in the new reiteration of the popular cartoon.

The new show even went so far as to cast queer actress, Natalie Morales to voice Betty.

Morales commented, “Anyone who watched the original show may have had an inkling Betty was a member of the alphabet mafia.”

“Betty is a single mom with her own business who has twins and still has time to hang out with her friends and her community.”

She is excited about the queer representation, “I think it’s just so great because examples of living your life happily and healthily as an out queer person is just such a beacon for young queer people who may not have examples of that.”

“And yeah, Betty is a fictional cartoon, but even cartoons were hugely influential for me as a kid and if I’d been watching ‘Rugrats’and seen Betty casually talking about her ex-girlfriend, I think at least a part of me would have felt like things might be okay in the future.”

How has social media reacted to the news?

Millennials who grew up watching the original show were shocked.

But not that Betty is now openly gay, they were stunned that she wasn’t before.

When does the Rugrats reboot premiere?

The reboot premieres on Thursday, May 28 with the first batch of episodes followed by a second batch at a later date.

It will be streaming on Paramount+.

According to the log line the show will follow, “even bigger adventures born from the color imaginations of Tommy, Chuckie, Phil, Lil, Susie and Angelica.”

The one-hour premiere, “Second Time Around,” Tommy leads the babies on an adventure to help Chuckie after his big attempt to be brave goes wrong.
