“I Support My Gay Community”: Dennis Rodman Admits Teammates Knew About His Bar Hopping – EssentiallySports

There are few NBA legends who are as colorful and vibrant as Dennis Rodman. The former Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls icon is widely considered one of the greatest rebounders ever. Moreover, his antics off the court make him greater.

Apart from his brilliant rebounding and defensive abilities, Dennis Rodman had a reputation for being involved in wild parties. Interestingly enough, during his time with the San Antonio Spurs, he also visited a lot of gay bars.

During an interview, he revealed that he attended gay bars in San Antonio in order to motivate himself and live life and he also talked about how his teammates knew about his habits.

Rodman said, “I used to go to gay bars and stuff. It was so funny the fact that all my teammates knew I went to gay bars and stuff like that and I support my gay community, no matter where I am in the world.”

The former NBA champion has always been supportive of the LGBTQ community. A few years ago, NFL star Ryan Russell came out as bisexual which triggered responses from across the world. “You know, as long as he plays and performs, does it matter?”, said Rodman when asked to comment on Russell’s coming out.

Dennis Rodman once took his teammate to a gay club as a surprise

Former Chicago Bulls icon Dennis Rodman is full of surprises. During his time with the San Antonio Spurs, Rodman developed a close relationship with Jack Haley. 

Interestingly enough, their friendship sparked after Rodman surprised Haley and took him to a gay club in San Antonio. After one of the team’s dinners, Rodman invited Haley and his wife to join in for a surprise. Haley readily agreed and Rodman led them to a gay club.

Talking about the incident, Haley said, “So we went in, and they had a male stripper up on the stage, stripped down to a G-string. I shocked him and slipped one of the guys a buck. Ever since then, we’ve been good buds.”

Dennis Rodman was pleased with Haley and the two became the best of friends. When the Chicago Bulls traded for Rodman, Haley was also brought in as he was one of the few to truly understand Rodman.
