HSBBB: BA holds off Bridges for Field’s first win as head coach – LowcoSports

They had to wait a couple of games to deliver it, but Beaufort Academy boys basketball gave Nick Field his first win as a head coach with a 55-47 home victory over crosstown rival Bridges Prep on Friday.

Sully Gay scored 16 of his game-high 20 points in the second half, including 10 in the fourth quarter, to help the Eagles hold off a scrappy Buccaneers squad after racing out to a 12-point lead in the first quarter.

“They made me work for it,” Field said. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Field subbed deep into the rotation in the first half to get some of his inexperienced players quality minutes, and the Bucs dug in and stayed in the game. BA couldn’t find the range from behind the 3-point arc for most of the night, but Eddy Gonzalez knocked down a key triple in the fourth quarter to help the Eagles maintain the edge.

Eddy Gonzalez added eight points for BA, while Amarion Wilson and Zeke Gonzalez added seven each.

“It’s huge having a point guard as tough as Zeke,” Field said. “He plays through contact and makes great passes. Defense does not faze him. He’s going to have a great year.”

BA (1-2) hosts the Lowcountry Wildcats homeschool program on Saturday.
