On the evening of their gaye holud, when Abhishek Ray and Chaitanya Sharma were on their way to their mehndi, sangeet and pre-wedding cocktail reception, their car stopped at the Ballygunge Phari traffic signal in South Kolkata. A trans person knocked at their window for alms and Ray and Sharma both gave her money.
She pocketed the money and then touched their heads separately. “Stay happy,” she said, “stay together,” and gave them each a one-rupee coin.
