High school sports results (Friday-Monday): Roosevelt continues dominant start to season on gridiron – Greeley Tribune

Friday

Cross country

Frontier hosts Wolverine Invite, in Greeley: Frontier Academy hosted 22 teams at the Wolverine Invitational at Monfort Park. Greeley Central scored 114 points and placed third out of 17 teams in the boys standings. Laramie won the boys team title with 21 points.

Valley was fourth (132), Roosevelt placed fifth (148), host Frontier was sixth (176), Eaton finished seventh (206) and Northridge placed 10th (248). Valley senior Calab Caciari was 10th (17:43.60), individually, one spot ahead of his senior teammate, Sawyer Peterson (11th, 17:47.20). Platte Valley senior Tanner Reinert was 11th (17:47.20).

Laramie junior Dominic Eberle won the boys individual title (16:25.30).

Laramie also won the girls team title with 56 points. Eaton placed fifth (135) out of 12 teams. Roosevelt was sixth (138), Frontier finished seventh (142), Greeley Central was 10th (274) and Northridge was 12th (305).

Reds junior Andie Rasmussen was second in the girls race (19:37.30) behind Laramie junior Addison Forry (19:29.80). Frontier Academy junior Angela Friedman was ninth (20:39.60), and Roosevelt sophomore Rachel Wheeler placed 10th (20:44.20).

Resurrection Christian dominates Fort Morgan Invite, in Fort Morgan: Resurrection Christian placed three runners in the top five, and four in the top seven, of the boys race at the Fort Morgan Invitational.

Cougars senior Caleb Sutter placed first overall, finishing in 17:18.90. Resurrection Christian junior Samuel Langer was third (17:30.80), sophomore Jackson Fagerlin was fourth (17:35.70), and senior Emil Naranjo placed seventh (17:46.40).

Resurrection Christian won the team title with 26 points. Weld Central placed seventh (206) out of nine teams.

The Cougars were similarly dominant in the girls race. Sophomore Joy Koole won the girls race in (19:59.40). Junior Joey Komberec was fourth (21:29.40), freshman Elizabeth Roberts placed fifth (21:32.70), senior Anika Brolsma was seventh (21:42.40), junior Kate Wold placed eighth (21:47.70), and sophomore Maggie Komberec finished 10th (22:20.30).

Resurrection Christian won the girls team title with 21 points.

Football

Fort Lupton 45, Weld Central 6, in Fort Lupton: Fort Lupton won its second consecutive game and improved to 2-1 overall. This is the first time the Bluedevils have had a winning record since 2013, when it ultimately went 5-5. Fort Lupton also has twice as many wins as it had all of this past season. The Bluedevils were in full control from the get-go, going up 17-0 after one quarter and 31-0 by halftime. Senior quarterback William Alvarado completed 16 of 28 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Anthony Blan-Mendenhall caught six passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. Junior D’mitri Garza-Alarcon led Fort Lupton’s rushing game with 54 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Weld Central fell to 0-3.

Northridge 63, Greeley Central 8, at District 6 Stadium: Northridge scored on the first play of the game and ultimately went up 57-8 in the first half to emphatically push its record to 3-0. Grizzlies senior quarterback Cooper Rose went 4 for 7 with 162 yards and two touchdowns. Senior running back Damon West carried the ball 12 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Fellow senior Reece Pratz caught one pass for a touchdown and 75 yards. Senior Brendan Peterson caught two passes for 69 yards and a touchdown. Greeley Central fell to 0-3.

Roosevelt 49, Fort Morgan 0, in Johnstown: Roosevelt racked up another lopsided victory to improve to 3-0 overall. The Rough Riders were firing out the gate, going up 28-0 after one quarter and 49-0 by halftime. Junior Xavier Ramirez led Roosevelt’s run game with 100 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries. Junior quarterback Bronco Hartson carried the ball five times for 94 yards and a touchdown. He also completed 6 of 8 passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Tucker Peterson caught four passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns.

Dayspring Christian 50, Byers 20, in Byers: Dayspring erased a modest 14-12 halftime deficit by scoring eight unanswered points in the third quarter, then outscoring Byers 30-6 in the fourth. The Eagles held the Bulldogs to just 12 rushing yards on 25 carries. Dayspring improved to 1-1 with the nonleague win.

Briggsdale 20, Prairie 12, in Briggsdale: Briggsdale prevailed in a relatively defensive-minded affair, by 6-man standards. Senior Claytin Hove had 142 rushing yards on 19 carries for Prairie, but it wasn’t enough to match the Falcons’ offensive output. Briggsdale improved to 2-1 overall, 1-0 in 1A 6-man League 1 play. The Mustangs fell to 1-2, 1-1.

Kent Denver 48, Highland 6, in Denver: Highland struggled on both sides of the ball to fall to 0-3 overall. The Huskies had just 121 yards of total offense.

Softball

Roosevelt wins two, in Berthoud: Roosevelt picked up a pair of wins in the Berthoud Invitational, defeating Conifer 10-6 and Liberty 22-5. Sophomore Lilly Rosenthal went 2 for 4 with a double, three RBI and two runs against Conifer. Freshman Kenli Kern went 1 for 2 with two RBI. The Rough Riders had 22 hits against Liberty. Junior Reagan Scott went 4 for 5 with four RBI and two runs. Freshman Lily Wiese, Rosenthal and junior Emmy Supernor each drove in three RBI. The Rough Riders improved to 9-2 overall.

Windsor goes 3-0, in Littleton: Windsor picked up a trio of wins during the first day of the Dave Sanders Memorial Tournament, defeating Lakewood 12-0, Eaglecrest 4-1 and Pueblo Central 10-0. Against Lakewood, junior Kinza Sagel went 2 for 3 with a home run, three RBI and a run. Sagel also pitched all four innings, allowing no runs on two hits, striking out seven and walking none. Against Eaglecrest, Sagel and junior Katie Perkins each had an RBI. In the win against Pueblo Central, sophomore Molli Magana had six RBI, a home run and two runs on 1-for-3 hitting. Sophomore Jaklynn Harteker pitched all five innings, allowing no runs on three hits, striking out 10 and walking one. Windsor improved to 10-2 overall.

Valley 16, Jefferson Academy 9, in Broomfield: Valley’s offense was clicking, as the Vikings improved to 4-7 with this nonleague victory. The Vikings erased an early 6-5 deficit with three runs in the top of the third and five more in the fifth. Sophomore Avary Kamphaus led the way, hitting 4 for 5 with a double, four RBI and two runs. Junior Brianna Mercado went 4 for 5 with a double, three RBI and three runs.

Platte Valley goes 1-1, in Brush: Platte Valley opened its campaign in Brush’s two-day tournament with a 12-2 win against Florence and a 10-0 loss against Rocky Ford. Broncos juniors Nevaeh McKenzie and Kate Hinojosa had three RBI apiece against Florence. Hinojosa went the distance in the pitcher’s circle, allowing two unearned runs and one hit, while striking out nine and walking two. Platte Valley had just two hits against Florence, both by junior Tyleigh Curtis. The Broncos moved their record to 5-4.

Rangeview 5, Resurrection Christian 2, in Berthoud: Resurrection Christian dropped its first game of the season, a close matchup in the Berthoud Invitational. Senior Alexis Knapp led the Cougars, hitting 3 for 3 with two RBI. All three of Knapp’s hits were triples. Knapp also pitched all six innings in the circle, allowing two earned runs on seven hits, striking out eight and walking two. Resurrection Christian fell to 6-1 overall.

Fort Lupton drops two, in Brush: Fort Lupton dropped a couple close games, 6-3 to Limon and 5-4 to Brush, in the first day of a two-day tournament hosted by Brush. The Bluedevils fell to 6-5 overall.

Girls volleyball

Briggsdale 3, Prairie 0, in Briggsdale: Briggsdale won its third consecutive match to improve to 6-2 overall, 2-0 in 1A North Central play.

Valley 3, The Academy 0, in Gilcrest: Valley won its third consecutive match via a sweep, prevailing 25-23, 25-16, 25-18. The Vikings improved to 5-1 overall with the nonleague win. Sophomore Nevaeh Jimenez had 10 kills, 12 assists and six digs. Junior Peyton Savolt added three aces and 11 digs.

Union Colony 3, Dawson 0, in Lafayette: Union Colony swept this league matchup, 25-19, 25-19, 25-20. Senior Lana Coron led the way with 14 kills and 14 digs. Senior Zaria Ferguson added 12 kills, four aces, a block and 10 digs. The Timberwolves improved to 2-2 overall, 1-0 in 2A/1A Mile High League play.

Berthoud 3, Weld Central 0, in Berthoud: Weld Central was unable to pick up a set in this league match, falling 25-14, 25-13, 25-22. The Rebels fell to 3-6 overall, 1-1 in 4A/3A Patriot League play.

Saturday

Cross Country

Severance fares well in Bernie Gay Invite, in Lafayette: Severance junior Caden Schweer was the runner-up in the boys division of the Centaurus-hosted Bernie Gay Invitational at Waneka Lake Park. He finished in 16:00.30, just behind Conifer senior Patrick Doty (15:57.40).

Windsor sophomore Cole Mazurana was ninth (16:27.70).

The Silver Knights (153 points) placed third out of 25 teams in the boys standings. Windsor was 15th (415). Host Centaurus won the boys team title with 50 points.

Monarch won the girls team title with 74 points. Windsor was fifth (130) out of 18 teams.

Windsor sophomore Maggie Bush placed 18th (20:26.40), individually, one spot ahead of her sophomore teammate, Eden Baatz (20:28.50).

Stargate junior Allison Pippert won the girls race in 18:37.80.

Frontier hosts invite, in Greeley: A day after hosting the Wolverine Invitational, Frontier Academy hosted the Running From The Past Classic at Josephine Jones Park.

Wolverines senior Madison Brosig won the girls race in 19:32.40. Her junior teammate Emma Sorbo was seventh (20:00.80).

The Classical Academy won the girls team title with 21 points.

The Wolverines placed third (74) out of six teams in the boys standings. The Classical Academy was first (26).

Classical Academy junior Matthew Edwards won the boys race in 15:49.50. Frontier junior Darren Hayden was eighth (16:44.20), senior Mauricio Lara placed 10th (16:53.90), and sophomore Kalid Fanning was 11th (16:54.20).

Football

Eaton 44, Platte Valley 0, in Eaton: Eaton opened its new football stadium in style, with a dominant win against its longtime rival. The Reds led 27-0 after the first quarter and 41-0 by halftime, activating a mercy rule-mandated running clock. Eaton senior quarterback Walker Martin completed 9 of 12 passes for 138 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Senior Tate Smith caught five passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Ryder True led a balanced Reds rushing attack with 72 yards and a touchdown on six carries. Eaton won the yardage battle 340-37. The Reds improved to 2-1 with the nonleague win. Platte Valley fell to 2-1.

Severance 37, Mead 27, in Severance: Severance improved to 2-1 with a win in this high-scoring nonleague affair. The Silver Knights had a 16-13 lead at halftime of this nip-and-tuck matchup. Severance outscored Mead 21-14 in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Silver Knights junior quarterback Jaden Hoffman completed 8 of 15 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Gage Bachman carried the ball 17 times for 115 yards and two touchdowns. Bachman also caught three passes for 57 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Resurrection Christian 20, Buffalo (Wyo.) 14, in Loveland: Resurrection Christian secured a tightly contested nonleague win against an out-of-state foe to improve to 3-0 overall.

Manitou Springs 36, Valley 35, in Gilcrest: Valley was denied its first win of the season by the most narrow of margins. The Vikings fell to 0-2 with the nonleague loss. Sophomore Marcus Vialpando led a balanced Vikings run game with 62 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore quarterback Carson Adolf completed 8 of 21 passes for 66 yards.

Boys soccer

Fort Lupton 10, Bruce Randolph 0, in Denver: Fort Lupton kept rolling, improving to 4-2 overall, 2-0 in 3A/2A Frontier League play. The Bluedevils were red hot from the onset, scoring nine goals in the first half. Senior Santiago Gonzales had five goals and an assist. Senior Giancarlo Mendez had two goals and three assists. Senior Jonathan Gonzales, junior Ronaldo Guerrero and sophomore Caleb Adam each had a goal and an assist.

Eagle Valley 1, Frontier Academy 0, in Greeley: Frontier couldn’t find the back of the goal, as it suffered just its second loss of the season. The Wolverines fell to 2-2-1 with the nonleague loss to unbeaten Eagle Valley (6-0). Senior goalkeeper Alexander Dhupar had six goals for Frontier Academy.

Softball

Northridge 18, Mountain View 1, in Loveland: Northridge picked up a dominant conference win to secure its fifth victory in its past six games. The Grizzlies improved to 7-4 overall, 6-3 in 4A Longs Peak play. Freshman Naomi Propes led Northridge, hitting 4 for 4 with four RBI and a run. Junior Mikeayla Llamas and sophomore Belle Bailey had two hits and three RBI apiece. Llamas and junior Kennedy Strausheim each recorded a home run. Propes pitched all four innings, allowing one earned run.

Windsor goes 1-1, in Littleton: During the second and final day of the Dave Sanders Memorial Tournament, Windsor defeated Ponderosa 11-3 before losing to Columbine 13-3. Against Ponderosa, sophomore Lilia Mancina hit 1 for 3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs. Sophomore Molli Magana went 3 for 4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs. Senior Olivia Schramm, sophomore Lindsey Hinson and sophomore Molli Magana each had an RBI against Columbine. The Wizards moved their record to 11-3.

Platte Valley splits games, in Brush: Platte Valley opened Day 2 of Brush’s tournament with a rough 25-4 loss against Limon before bouncing back with an 8-7 win against Florence. The Broncos went 2-2 in the tournament and moved to 6-5 overall. Juniors Nevaeh McKenzie and Lea Camacho had Platte Valley’s only hits and RBI against Limon, which is the seventh-ranked team in 3A, according to CHSAANow.com. Garcia and Camacho had two RBI apiece against Florence. Camacho, senior Sadie Lynch and senior Rylee Woods each had two hits. Woods had two doubles, and Camacho and junior Tyleigh Curtis each had one double. Platte Valley trailed 7-2 until scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Fort Lupton goes 1-1, in Brush: A day after going 0-2 in a tournament hosted by Brush, Fort Lupton topped Sterling 2-0 before losing to host Brush 6-1. The win against the Tigers is a notable one, as Sterling is the third-ranked team in 3A, according to CHSAANow.com. The Bluedevils are ranked 10th in 3A. Fort Lupton sits at 7-6 overall.

Greeley Central splits twin bill, in Greeley: In a nonleague doubleheader, Greeley Central lost to Kennedy 13-6 and then defeated Kennedy 7-6. Junior Haley Martinez went 1 for 1 with a double, two RBI and a run in Game 1. In Game 2, junior Morgan Arias went 2 for 2 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs. The Wildcats moved their record to 4-10.

Girls volleyball

Windsor goes 4-0, in Colorado Springs: Windsor was dominant in the Lewis-Palmer Invitational with 2-0 wins against Coronado, Centauri and Loveland and a 2-1 win against Platte Valley. In the four matches, junior Cailyn McCracken had 26 kills, four aces and five blocks. Sophomore Kadence Marsh racked up 22 kills, 12 aces, 26 digs and 40 assists. The Wizards improved to 8-2 overall. Windsor has risen to fourth in the latest CHSAANow.com 4A rankings.

Platte Valley goes 3-1, in Colorado Springs: Platte Valley won three of four matches in the Lewis-Palmer Invitational. The Broncos earned 2-0 victories against Bayfield, Ralston Valley and Niwot. They lost 2-1 to Windsor. Sophomore Karsyn Fetzer led Platte Valley with 34 kills, three aces and 39 digs on the day. Fellow sophomore Lauryn Uyemura had 73 assists, 25 digs and four blocks. The Broncos improved to 7-4.

Standley Lake 3, Greeley West 0, in Westminster: Greeley West dropped a nonleague match, 25-13, 25-23, 25-23. The Spartans fell to 2-4 overall.

Union Colony goes 1-2, in Denver: Union Colony won one of three matches in a tournament hosted by Bishop Machebeuf. The Timberwolves dropped 2-0 matches to D’Evelyn and Prospect Ridge Academy but defeated Regis Groff 2-0. Union Colony wrapped up its day with a 2-1 loss to Colorado Academy to fall to 3-5 overall. Freshman Nadene Chacon led the Timberwolves from the service line, according to Union Colony coach Emily Kurz. “The team is going to continue to focus on being calm, consistent and scrappy,” Kurz wrote in an email.

Monday

Boys golf

Resurrection Christian wins Wellington Invite, in Fort Collins: Resurrection Christian scored a three-golfer score of 227 to comfortably win the seven-team Wellington Invitational at Collindale Golf Course.

The Cougars fielded a lineup led by freshman Jack Carter, who shot a 73 and placed first. Fellow freshman Clint Summers shot a 74 (2nd), senior Gage Meis shot an 80 (3rd), and freshman Micah Livingstone carded an 82 (4th).

Greeley West placed third (279) with a lineup of junior Ethan Guest (91, tied-6th), sophomore Corbin Suntych (91, tied-6th), junior John Lowery (97, tied-10th) and senior Evan Shindle (110, tied-18th).

Boys soccer

Estes Park 6, Union Colony 1, in Estes Park: Union Colony was unable to keep pace with Estes offensively, falling to 0-5 with the nonleague loss. The Bobcats scored three goals in each half. Sophomore Izaiah Gamez had the Timberwolves’ goal.

Girls volleyball

Union Colony 3, Skyview Academy 0, in Greeley: Union Colony controlled this match from start to finish, improving to 4-5 overall, 2-0 in 2A/1A Mile High League play. The Timberwolves won by set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 25-17. Senior Mariah Glasper led the way with 18 kills, 14 digs and an ace. Senior Brooklyn Eskew had 27 assists and eight digs.

Windsor Charter 3, Dawson 1, in Windsor: Windsor Charter snapped a three-match losing streak and improved to 4-4 overall with this nonleague win. The Firebirds prevailed 25-22, 22-25, 25-10, 26-24.
