SARANAC LAKE — In a clash between two rivals, the Saranac Lake girls’ soccer team came out on top.
Playing on their home turf, the Red Storm girls edged out the Lake Placid Blue Bombers 2-0 on Saturday.
Saranac Lake’s Madison Moody-Durant scored her team’s first goal of the game just six minutes into the contest on a corner kick from Chloe Skiff.
The Red Storm’s second goal was scored on a rebound from Lizzie Harvey. Skiff assisted on the second goal as well.
“Our girls played well overall,” Red Storm head coach Jason Wamsganz said in a statement. “We had a bit of a lull for about 10 minutes in the first half, which we have to get better at. But they responded well in the second half. It’s nice to get a few goals.”
Lake Placid’s Adelisa Ahmemulic had a solid performance in net. She recorded 12 saves in the loss, while the Red Storm’s Karlie Goetz had 4.
Despite earning the team’s second win of the season, Wamsganz said the team still has work to improve on.
“We continue to struggle to find the back of the net with any consistency, but the girls are working hard in practice to get better at scoring, it will come.”
With the win, Saranac Lake improves to 2-7, while Lake Placid falls to 0-10. The Red Storm will take on Ticonderoga today on the road at 6 p.m. The Blue Bombers will host Northern Adirondack on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
