Gladys Gay Wagoner Stamper, 87, of McGrady, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist-Wilkes Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2023, at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel with Pastor Roger Wagoner and Pastor Donny Shumate officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home

Gladys was born Sept. 12, 1935, in Wilkes County to Harrison and Mertie Royal Wagoner. She retired from Chatham Manufacturing, Holly Farms/Tyson and after retirement worked at Mulberry Elementary School as a foster grandparent. She was a member of Christian Fellowship Mission Church and Jesus Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Montie Stamper; great-grandson, Josh Dancy; great-great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Billings; three sisters, Vener Royal, Marie Royal, Mae Shumate four brothers, Ray Wagoner, Willie Wagoner, Odell Wagoner and Vernon Wagoner.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Felts of North Wilkesboro, Teresa Shook and partner, Jimmy, of Purlear; six sons, Kenneth Stamper and wife, Cathy, of McGrady, Garry Stamper and wife, Terry, of Wilkesboro, Dean Stamper and wife, Vera, of North Wilkesboro, Gene Stamper of McGrady, Jack Stamper and wife, Donna, of Roaring River, Jamie Stamper and wife, Jenny, of McGrady, 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; two sisters; Peggy Edwards and husband, Junior, of North Wilkesboro; and Lorene Wood of McGrady.

Flowers are accepted, or memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
