Gays Against Groomers founder Jaimee Michell compares gender-affirming care to Nazi medical experiments – Media Matters for America
STELLA ESCOBEDO (HOST): I mean, you mentioned that you recently started this account. You started the account on Instagram and Twitter about two months ago. On Instagram, you already have 83,000 followers. On Twitter, you have 50,000. Why did you start this account? What kinds of things are you posting? What are you showing people that big tech obviously doesn’t like?
JAIMEE MICHELL (FOUNDER, GAYS AGAINST GROOMERS): Yeah, I created the coalition because, you know, there are many of us within the gay community that have been speaking out against what’s happening now to children in our name for a long time. But we never had a unified voice. We never had a unified front to really tackle this stuff head-on. So, I thought it would be a very powerful thing to do to band together and unite behind this message that we oppose it, that we don’t want anything to do with these people. And it’s very important.
Our mission is twofold. It’s to protect the children, obviously, first and foremost, but also to reclaim our name. I mean, our community has been completely hijacked by these radicals that do not represent us in any way. And they’re pushing this ideology and using our community to basically shield them from criticism.
You know, and right now, all anybody sees coming from, you know, the pride cult really is what I call it is just indoctrinating children and, you know, sexualizing them at drag shows. And I think that a lot of people are starting to look unfavorable unfavorably on us, just regular gay people in the community, you know, that are just gay and live our lives normally and want to be left alone and leave everyone else alone. They’re starting to just associate us with them and think that we all support this. And it’s – we’re not a monolith. The vast majority of us strongly oppose it. We stand against it with all parents and every concerned person in this country and around the world.
So I just wanted to make a very clear distinction that, you know, they’re doing this, but it’s largely honestly pushed by people not even in the community like it’s happening within our community. But these people do not represent us. They’re a very small minority, but they’re so vocal and loud because they have the backing of woke media and woke corporations, and even the government now, like the Biden administration, with Rachel Levine coming out saying gender-affirming care, is like, has to be done in order to save children’s lives. And it’s really the exact opposite.
ESCOBEDO: Yeah – yeah. Did you see what happened in the U.K.? They’re closing down a facility because they’re saying that kids are being transitioned at early stages and it’s very dangerous. They don’t know what the long-term effects are, the health effects.
MICHELL: Right. I mean, there is no long-term data on this. What’s happening now would make you know, I think Josef Mengele, I believe that was his name, you know, the Nazi doctor. He, you know, this puts him to shame. They are basically using an entire generation of children as lab rats for this sick ideology. And they’re full steam ahead with it. And they see us as a definite roadblock and a threat to that.
ESCOBEDO: You’ve been very open about, you know, your conservative voice as well. Is it – is it hard to be, you know, to have a conservative voice now?
MICHELL: Yeah. I mean, I am personally conservative. I’ve actually had an online presence as the gay who’s straight on Instagram primarily for over six years. And we always like to joke – me and others that are, you know, right-wing gays – saying, like, we’ve come out twice now and actually coming out as conservative is much harder than coming out as gay now. It’s almost like looking down upon if you don’t come out as gay now, like, oh, you’re just straight. Well, you know.
ESCOBEDO: I’ve heard other people say the same thing.
